This NY Times piece uncovers an interesting phenomenon: a series of unrelated, separate crimes have been committed by people wearing a Yankees cap.

The piece spends a good paragraph on two on what is known as “The Jay Z Effect”, since the rap icon is known for almost always sporting a Yankee cap, and criminologists argues that gives off the impression of streetcred among urban youths.

Of course, the piece also acknowledges that sometimes it seems everyone in the city sports a Yankees cap, which is kinda lame, cause surely, a good percentage of them are wearing it for the sake of wearing it.
